Coach Development Workshops:

Saturday, 29th January saw our first two Coach Development Workshops of 2022 take place at the Entekra Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence in Cloghan with over 80 coaches and players in attendance. The first workshop was delivered by Owen Mooney (Dublin GAA Learning & Games Development Coordinator & Caulry GAA Senior Coach) was focused on Using the Family of Games for Better Team Play and the second workshop delivered by Diarmuid Scullion (Scotstown Senior & Derry Minor Coach) was themed around Small Sided Games to Develop Tactical Ploys.

Monaghan Coaching & Games would thank Owen & Diarmuid for delivering two brillaint sessions, our U15 Football Development Squad for participating in the sessions and all the coaches who braved the cold and windy weather to attend.

Also, big thanks to Stephen Gollogly and Mark Counihan for raffling some of their GAA Tactics Board and GAA Game Day Journal products to some of the coaches.

A recording of both workshops will be posted on Youtube over the coming weeks.

Foundation Courses:

We are currently rolling out the practical sessions of the Foundation Coaching course in both Football and Hurling. In total, over 70 coaches from 23 clubs completed the Football Foundation Award and 16 coaches from 4 clubs completed the Hurling Foundation Award. Monaghan Coaching and Games would like to thank Cremartin GAA, Carrick Emmets GFC and Entekra Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence for allowing us to use their excellent facilites to host the courses.

We would also like to thank Cillian Cromwell, Macartan McKenna & Oisin MacManus for delivering the courses.

Award 1 Courses:

We delivered our first Award 1 Football Course of the year on Friday 21st & Saturday 22nd January. This was a blended course with modules being delivered virtually on the Friday evening and the practical elements being delivered face-to-face on the Saturday. In total, 33 coaches from 9 clubs completed the course.

Monaghan Coaching & Games would like to thank St. Macartan’s College in Monaghan for hosting the course as well as Colin Malone, Macartan McKenna & Paul O’Connor for acting as tutors on the course.

We will be delivering another Award 1 Football course on Friday 4th & Saturday 5th March. This course is fully booked up.

An Award 1 Hurling course had been scheduled for this coming weekend. Unfortunately, there were insufficient numbers to run the course. We are working to see if it will be possible to double up with a neighbouring county to deliver an Award 1 Hurling course in the near future.

Please see below for a selection of photos from our Coach Education courses in January….
