As the Monaghan Senior Footballers commence their 2022 season in the Bank Of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup this weekend a familiar face will not be present. Castleblayney Faughs player Dermot Malone announced his retirement from the senior inter county scene due to injury this year. Dermot was an outstanding, diligent and courageous footballer with an abundance of skill, bravery and passion on tap which lead to a truly remarkable career wearing the Monaghan Jersey.
Central to the Monaghan Senior panel from his debut in 2010, Dermot collected 2 Ulster Championship medals for his persistent and determined efforts. Coming through the ranks of our development squads from the age of U14 Dermot continually delivered constant stalwart performances in each appearance.
Fearless in his approach and the willingness to do the upmost for his team members Dermot gave every game his all. One of most unsung heroes of Monaghan Football in his era Dermot has certainly left a legacy behind which the next generation will inspire from.
Monaghan GAA wish to sincerely thank Dermot for his commitment, dedication and selfless service to the Monaghan jersey and we will be honoured to commemorate Dermot on his retirement at our annual award night later this year.
