Monaghan GAA…Valuing & Appreciating the Club Volunteer

The old cliché that goes, ‘many hands make light work’ is a very true saying when it comes to all aspects of running a GAA club. Our team managers, selectors and players all put in an enormous amount of time and energy on the playing pitch…but equally, away from the playing field, our volunteers are the lifeblood and backbone of every single club in the County. Volunteers spend countless hours of time, energy, enthusiasm in a variety of ways to ensure that the club continues to function. Without the work that these dedicated individuals carry out many of our clubs would cease to exist.

Monaghan GAA are delighted and pleased to announce that our 3rd ‘Volunteer Appreciation’ night takes place on Wednesday 27th November, in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan. The ‘Volunteer Recognition & Appreciation Scheme’ is designed to recognise the outstanding contribution volunteers make to clubs and the community. It is created to recognise individuals who may not necessarily fall under any other annual awards but they deserve recognition for their enormous voluntary contribution.

Volunteers are the life and soul of our association and what we do we could not survive without the ongoing support we receive from volunteers. Monaghan GAA want to embrace the value of volunteerism and recognise the exemplary efforts that hundreds of people make across our County who selflessly give their time to benefit others. We all know people that devote an abundance of time and resources towards their club. They are passionate about their club and they continually demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm and energy to make a difference.

For example, the person that opens and closes the dressing-rooms, the person who lines out the playing fields, puts up the flags, goal-nets, ensures the hot water is on or stands at the gate. The person behind the scenes who makes tea and sandwiches for the players, the person who washes and cleans the jerseys, the ticket sellers who raise money for the club etc. All are vital jobs and are essential to keep a club going.

We want to publicly recognise these people for their dedication, commitment and loyalty to not only YOUR club but OUR association. This is a great opportunity for clubs to give something back to their many volunteers and show them that their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

The presentations of these awards will take place at a special function where Nominees will be invited and family members are more than welcome to attend. All nominees will receive a special ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ (signed by An Uachtarán) to acknowledge their work for significant achievements and contribution to the GAA.

Last year’s event was a special and magical evening where we recognised and paid tribute to some amazing volunteers. Once again, we have another wonderful opportunity to extend a massive ‘THANK YOU’ to another group of volunteers, who have over the years, contributed and dedicated selfless time in support of helping their club and their communities.
