Ulster Junior Football Championship Final:
Blackhill Emeralds (Monaghan) 1-11 Buncrana (Donegal) 0-09
All-Ireland Junior Football Quarter Final:
Blackhill Emeralds (Monaghan) v Thomas McCurtain (London) Sunday December 8th 1pm in Ruislip.
On Saturday evening in Healy Park, Omagh, County Tyrone our dreams came true when against all the odds on the biggest stage and when it really mattered Blackhill produced a heroic team performance that had everything, rising above the great Buncrana challenge and we deservedly brought the Paul Kerr Cup home and became Ulster Champions. The wave of emotion has been unprecedented since Tommy Geehan stuck the ball in the net at the end of the 10 additional minutes played and Captain Hugh Byrne raised the Paul Kerr Cup. This was summed up majestically by Seán McCaffrey and Alan Gunn’s closing commentary on Northern Sound radio and added to by Frank McNally’s quoting of Patrick Kavanagh’s poem Shancoduff “My black hills have never seen the sun rising” Eternally they will look north towards Omagh, and for the record they have seen the rising sun as of late! We acknowledge and sincerely thank the great support given from so many Monaghan GAA clubs and supporters especially from Clontibret O’Neill’s and for us to win a provincial title in the name of Monaghan GAA and all that it stands for has been truly humbling. We are honoured and no more so than on Sunday morning when our club Chairman Paddy McBride and members of our committee brought the Paul Kerr Cup home to Cremartin Shamrocks for their club function. Congratulations to all our players, manager Aidan McCabe, selector Eamon Byrne, mentors Anthony McCann, Tom Griffin, Aidan Little and the entire backroom team.
