Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Round 1A
Scotstown 5-13 Doohamlet 2-12
Scotstown began their SFC title defence with a high-scoring win over Doohamlet in Clontibret. The holders made light of the absence of three county players to prove too strong for the 2018 IFC winners, with Conor McCarthy hitting 2-3 and Dermot McCrudden, Jamie McCarey and Micheál McCarville also finding the net. Goals from Jamie Walshe and the impressive Barry McBennett kept Doohamlet in touch, but Scotstown advanced to a derby with Truagh.

Clontibret 2-14 Carrickmacross 0-20 (AET)
* Clontibret won 2-0 on penalties
Clontibret made a winning start to the championship in Castleblayney, but only after their exciting clash with Carrickmacross became the first Monaghan SFC game to go to a penalty shoot-out. After Vincent Corey and Conor McManus had hit the net, Clontibret saw a five-point lead wiped out in the dying minutes of normal time and they also had the win within their reach during extra-time, only to be pegged back again by Carrick in a tense finish. Carrick were left to rue their poor efforts in the shoot-out, however, while Clontibret hailed Darren McDonnell for two penalty saves that helped his side through.
