Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which has now played a critical role in our club’s funding for 25 years.

Seniors: We exited the McElvaney’s Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship after a tough tussle with Corduff in Aughnamullen last Sunday. Dónal Hahessy and Shane Smyth kicked early points, but the remainder of the first half was a struggle, with scores from Liam Hahessy and Aodhán Óg McAnespie seeing us go in level at half-time at 0-4 apiece. Shane Smyth, Shane McMahon and Liam kept us in touch during a third quarter where scores continued to be at a premium, before a burst of 1-1 moved Corduff four points up. We rallied again during the closing stages, with points from Liam and Neil McAdam making it 0-11 to 1-8 and forcing extra-time. Corduff hit the first two scores of extra-time, but efforts from Shane McMahon and Neil had us 0-14 to 1-10 up at the change of ends. A goal from a penalty changed the momentum one last time, however, and Corduff went on to win by 2-12 to 0-14.

Team and scorers: Gary White; Thomas Croarkin, Aodhán Óg McAnespie (Capt., 0-1), Nicholas Scott; Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Conor Galligan, Dean Fanning; Stephen Driver, Kevin Loughran; Dónal Hahessy (0-1), Neil McAdam (0-3, 2f, 1 ‘45), Shane McMahon (0-2); Liam Hahessy (0-5, 4f), Shane Smyth (0-2), Éimhín Morahan.

Subs: Conor McCrystal for Smyth (43 mins), Lochlainn Power for Morahan (52).

We return to the Monaghan Electrical IFL with a must-win final-round home game against Killanny on Sunday week (October 6) at 12.30pm.

U-15: Our U-15 Division Four team fell short in last Saturday’s high-scoring championship final. Points from Cian Bradley, Eoin O’Hanlon and Shay Kelly got our lads off to a good start, but Aghabog rallied with a brace of quick goals. Eoin replied by finding the net and Cian added a hat-trick of points either side of the half-time break, with the score at 1-9 to 2-9, but another couple of goals pushed Aghabog clear. Our lads had lots of possession and scoring attempts during the second half, but despite Senan Cudden finding the net, it wasn’t enough. Our defence tried their best to keep a dangerous opposition attack at bay, but Aghabog ran out deserving winners in the end. Hard luck to our players and their management of Mel McMorrow, Brian Lenehan, Nicholas Scott and Brendan Burns.

Team and scorers: Oisín Reilly; Dáire Conlon, Gregory O’Connell (Capt.); Shane Moran, Mark Clerkin, Max Mallen; Senan Cudden (1-0), Cian Bradley (0-5); Ali Galligan, Eoin O’Hanlon (1-4, 0-2f, 0-1 ‘45), Oisín Treanor; Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Shay Kelly (0-2).

Subs used: Eoin McCleary, Jack Lynch.

Hurling:

U-15s: A week of mixed fortunes for the U-15 team; the first result of the week was a defeat in the league final versus Castleblayney on Wednesday. However, the lads had a chance to recover from that loss when they took on Carrick in the championship semi-final on Sunday. The first half was an even affair, with Luke McManus bringing the scoring threat for the Harps and Carrick raising a green flag at the other end. The Harps went in one point up at half-time and they extended this lead with a goal straight after the restart from Dylan O’Reilly. Carrick continued to battle hard and scored two goals to keep the pressure on, but the Harps continued to tip over their points, with Cian Bradley, Pedro and Shane Griffin all getting on the scoresheet. Ethan Ballantine added a second goal to consolidate the lead and we held on to win by four points despite Carrick scoring a late goal.

Team: Aidan Cunningham, Declan McKenna, Oisín Connolly, Enda Brady, Ethan Ballantine, Rylan McCooey, Gary Devlin, Cian Bradley, Dylan O’Reilly, Luke McManus, Matthew McGuinness, Jonas Alexis, Daniel, Oisín McGeown.

Juvenile Training: Training continues on Sunday at 12. New members welcome!
