Killanny 1-12 Tyholland 3-5

23/9/2019

A well appointed Pairc Grattan was the venue for the U15 Division 2 Championship final between Killanny and Tyholland on Saturday past. The match itself proved to be an exciting affair played between two very evenly matched sides. The north Monaghan men were quick to settle with a point from Dara McKenna  before Conor Burns got Killanny off the mark, Thomas Quinn then clipped over a point before the same player fired a rasping shot to the roof of the Tyholland net. Dylan O’Reilly in the Tyholland attack at this point was causing the Killanny rearguard all sorts of bother with a goal and 3 points and he was getting good support from Daniel Sherdian, Ben Gillanders and Calum Mullen. The Tyholland lead at this point could well have been greater but for the dependable Mark Carolan between the sticks for Killanny, as halftime approached Thomas Gartlan and Thomas Quinn responded for Killanny.  At the short whistle the scoreboard read Killanny 1 – 04 Tyholland 1- 05.

On the turnaround Killanny set about reducing the defecit with the Burns brothers Cian and Conor finding the range before Cilian McGahan and John Kelly both fired over to give Killanny a 3 point lead. Tyholland responded immediately, first a quick free from Dara McKenna found Ruairi Treanor who placed the ball to the Killanny net and then Callum Sherdian goaled from close range. Tyholland on the day had good performances from the 2 Aarron’s and Ruairi Treanor while Paddy Duffy and Charlie McElroy caught the eye. Killanny to their credit never wilted, Cillian McConnon and Christopher Tobin charged forward to kick points a piece while under presure. Matthew Matthers and John Gartlan drove Killanny forward relentlessly from halfback while Conal Marry  and Colin Murphy were heroic in defence, from this platform Killanny went in search of victory. Cian Burns kicked from distance to bring the sides level before Thomas Gartlan coolly slotted over the winnner deep into injury time.

On the long whistle the scoreboard read Killanny 1-12  Tyholland 3-5 much to the delight of the red and black faithful.
