Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 2 U13 Championship Final

Emyvale 5:12 Magheracloone 1-2

14/09/2019

The weather held up beautifully in a pristine Rooskey for the hosting of Emyvale and Magheracloone in a entertaining division 2 championship final. Magheracloone were fastest out of the blocks although it was Emyvale who opened the scoring with 2 frees from Jack McConnon and Michael Mc Nally. Minutes later Magheracloone replied with a fine goal to leave it 0:2-1:0.

This sparked an Emyvale reaction and the midfield duo of Johnnie Wright and Andrew Stewart take more control for a period which saw Emyvale score 1:2 before Magheracloone pulled a point back through the threatening Gareth Gainford. Magheracloone continued to use the wind smartly but with some good last second goal keeping from Paddy Mulligan and defending Emyvale somehow kept Magheracloone out.
The second half saw both teams changing tact with Emyvale using the wind and power of Darragh Hughes and the speed of Michael McNally and James McQuaid to their advantage and Magheracloone playing more through the hands into the wind. Magheracloone to their credit kept attacking and brought on subs such as Craig White and Mattie Doogan to bring new energy to the team. Emyvale also had a strong panel right through bringing on the tough defense of Patrick Murphy for the injured Luke Irwin , Harry Forde , Evan Mc Kenna , Aidan Treanor and James Deery all coming on to help steer the team home.

Emyvale kept chipping away at the scores and got 3 more goals and some fine points from Darragh Hughes , Matthew Finn , Michael McNally and Patrick Mohan. Big displays from Cormack Mckenna(C), Eoghan McGinn and Kayden Keenan for Emyvale, while also good games for Killian Smith(C), Kevin Gainford,Shane McMahon, Oisin McConnon to name a few.
Final whistle went on a strong performance for Emyvale coming out Eventual winners on a scoreline of 5:12-1:2.
Team captain Cormack Mckenna lifted the cup from Garrett Coyle to top off a great season for this team.
