A sharper, slicker Drumhowan got their Junior football championship campaign off to a winning start at the expense of disappointing Rockcorry in this fairly low-key affair that was played in greasy conditions in Emyvale on Friday evening last. Drumhowan laid the foundation for victory in the first half when they rattled the Rockcorry net four times and the game was practically over at the break when the Geraldines led by 4-5 to 1-2, but credit to Rockcorry, they made a battle of it in the second-half with the introduction of Noel Carroll, who scored 1-1, having an effect on the turn around, but the best they could manage was to get within six points of the eventual winners approaching the end of the third quarter and it was a third goal deep into stoppage time that made it look a little bit closer as a contest than it actually was.
