Mallon’s Sausages U17 Division 4 League Final

Corduff 3-7 Clontibret 1-20

Referee Barry Grimley

A calm August evening at the recently refurbished Cremartin Shamrock’s facilities and the scene was set for action between the black and amber of Corduff and Clontibret sporting a blue and white Monaghan kit to avoid a clash of colours between the sides!

This Division 4 Final opened as an even enough contest. Corduff got off to the perfect start with a Thomas Sheerin point from the throw in which was immediately cancelled out the other end by Clontibret’s on form free taker Caolan Keenan. Both sides traded scores as Diarmuid Marron popped over one for Corduff and Caolan converted another free the other end putting the sides level 0-2 by the 8th minute.

Clontibret then enjoyed a period of dominance going comfortably ahead scoring 5 unanswerd points off the boots of Ciarán Doyle,Aaron Carey,Darren McMahon,Caolan Kenan and Captain James Carey. Corduff eventually responded in the 19th minute with a point from Pádraig Clinton.

Clontibret added 2 more points by the aforementioned Ciarán Doyle and Darren McMahon going 0-9 to 0-3 up. However despite Clontibret’s dominanace and possession they were also guilty of missed opportunities in front of goal until Aaron Carey finally hit home a goal in the latter stages of the half while in dramatic fashion at the other end Corduff’s Jack Mohan converted a free and found the corner of the net  just on half time which narrowed the margin between the sides to Corduff 1-04 Clontibret 1-10.

In a very energetic display Corduff got back on back on track in the early exchanges of the 2nd half and edged their way back into the game with Diarmuid Marron on target outscoring Clontibret by 2-00 , one of the goals a penalty which he converted having been pulled down. The sides were now level on 3-5 to 1-11 and Diarmuid, Corduff’s only scorer in the half tapped over another point to put Corduff ahead . The momentum was now with Corduff and with them in the driving seat  it looked as if they’d push ahead. But Clontibret bounced back and ran up a 6 point lead in 13 minutes with Ciarán Doyle, Aaron Carey, Darren McMahon and Patrick Keenan all on target. Corduff’s defence was once again under attack and it took super defending and saves by  keeper Ryan Walsh to prevent Clontibret finding the net. Both sides traded scores in the dying moments of the half  but Clontibret eased to victory on a final score of Corduff 3-09 Clontibret 1-20.
