EirGrid Ulster U-20 Football Championship Quarter-Final
Cavan 1-13 Monaghan 2-4 30/6/19
Monaghan exited the U-20 Football Championship when they lost out away to Cavan in Sunday’s Ulster quarter-final. Despite a bright start, Monaghan ended up trailing for most of the first half, with six points from Patrick Lynch helping Cavan lead by five as the interval approached.
The visitors got back into it, however, with Seán Jones finding the net and Andrew Woods adding a point to leave just the minimum between the teams at half-time: Cavan 0-8 Monaghan 1-4. Cavan doubled their lead after the restart and although Aaron Mohan’s 40th-minute goal edged Monaghan ahead for the first time since the opening minutes, that would be as good as it got for Séamus McEnaney’s side. Cavan went on to hit an unanswered 1-4, including a late goal from Tiarnán Reilly, to set up a semi-final clash with Tyrone in Clones.
