EirGrid Ulster U-20 Football Championship Quarter-Final

Cavan v Monaghan, Sunday, 4.00, Kingspan Breffni

Monaghan enter the Ulster U-20 FC with a local derby quarter-final tie away to Cavan on Sunday.

Monaghan will be looking to make a better impact than in last year’s inaugural U-20 championship, where they made a first-round exit. To do that, they will have to get past a Cavan side backboned by their All-Ireland MFC semi-finalists from 2017, who beat Monaghan along the way to an Ulster final appearance. Cavan also recently reached the Leo Murphy Cup Final, where they lost to Down, while Monaghan didn’t manage any wins in their group.

Monaghan will need big performances from Dean Connolly, Andrew Woods, Ryan O’Toole and Liam Óg Murray. Two of the 2018 Ulster MFC winners make the Monaghan team, namely Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and Seán Jones, with five more of that side included in the subs by Séamus McEnaney. Oisín Kiernan and Oisín Pearson have been featuring for Cavan’s seniors, but the hosts should be able to call on the likes of Cian Madden, Karl Cosgrove, Tiarnán Reilly and Philip Rogers.

Monaghan: Ryan McNulty; Josh Walsh, Ryan O’Toole, Karl McMenamin; Ryan Mohan, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Séamus Kindlon; Dean Connolly (Capt.), Liam Óg Murray; Jack Gormley, Robbie McAlister, Oisín Gleeson; Aaron Mohan, Andrew Woods, Seán Jones.

Subs: Tiernan Duffy, Conor Doyle, Jordan McGarrell, Fionn O’Callaghan, David Hanley, Ronan Grimes, Eddie Walsh, Ryan Farrelly, Jack Doogan, Barry Kieran, Mark Mooney, Orán McElligott.
