Bank Of Ireland Celtic Challenge 2019 Reaches Quarter Final Stage

The Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge 2019 had reached the latter stages of the competition with quarter finals this weekend, Saturday the 15th June. The quarter final draw for the Corn Michael Feery, sees Monaghan facing Sligo , the same opponents as in last year’s quarter final with Belnaleck in Fermanagh the venue for this encounter.

As this Monaghan team progressed through the group stage of the competition the players grew in stature and confidence. Having defeated Louth in the opening round they suffered 2 consecutive defeats, the first to a very strong Wicklow Gold team in Round 2 and the second to Kildare Cadets also a very competitive team in Round 3. Monaghan returned to winning ways in Round 4 by defeating neighbours Cavan which was followed with another victory, this time over Longford in Round 5 , therefore finishing the group stage on a high!

The management team of Kevin Moloney , Ger O’Brien, Thomas Keenan and Paddy McArdle  will be hoping this winning form carries over to the Quarter Final  On Saturday.

The pairings for the Corn Michael Feery quarter finals are as follows:

Wicklow Gold V Antrim
Kildare Cadets V Mayo
Louth V Donegal
Monaghan V Sligo

All matches will be decided on the day. There will be extra time if necessary (10 minutes per half) and if the sides are still level it  will go to 65m frees with 5 different players taking the five 65m frees per team.

Throw-in in Belnaleck this Saturday at 13:00. Good luck to everyone involved.
