Allianz National Football League Division One
Monaghan 0-11 Galway 1-9 10/2/19
Monaghan fell to a second consecutive narrow defeat in the Allianz NFL after Galway held on in a tense finish at Inniskeen on Sunday.
Johnny Heaney’s goal just short of the hour mark proved decisive as Galway took their second win in three games, while Shane Walsh was influential throughout, kicking five points. A Monaghan team showing four changes from the loss to Roscommon had put themselves in a strong position while playing into the elements in the first half, but they were unable to kick on after the restart.
Monaghan did hit the last four points through Conor McManus, Rory Beggan (two) and Darren Hughes to close to within one, but they fell just short on a day when Fintan Kelly and Kieran Duffy limped off injured.
Monaghan’s next NFL game is away to Tyrone on Saturday, February 23.
