Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Section B
Monaghan v St. Mary’s University, Sunday, 1.30 *, Clones
Monaghan will be looking to continue their winning start to the 2019 Dr. McKenna Cup when they welcome St. Mary’s University, Belfast to Clones on Sunday. Please note earlier throw-in time.
Monaghan made an early start to their campaign with an eight-point win at home to Antrim last Saturday, while St. Mary’s were out even earlier when they fell to a heavy defeat against Armagh before Christmas. A second win here would leave Monaghan well placed to progress ahead of a short trip to Armagh on Wednesday evening.
Malachy O’Rourke has again announced a team with a combination of experience and youth for this game, featuring four changes, with Drew and Ryan Wylie, Neil McAdam and Vincent Corey named to replace Micheál Bannigan, Karl O’Connell, Fintan Kelly and Ryan McAnespie in the starting XV. One newcomer, Carrickmacross forward Stephen O’Hanlon, is again named among the substitutes.
2017 Sigerson Cup winners St. Mary’s will hope to be able to call on the likes of Niall Toner, Ben McKinless, Steven McConville, Mark Reid, Aaron Boyle and Ryan Coleman, although Oisín O’Neill is injured and the latter’s fellow county man Jarlath Óg Burns is lining out with Armagh.
Monaghan: Rory Beggan; Kieran Duffy, Drew Wylie, Colm Lennon; John McCarron, Frank Connolly, Barry Kerr; James Mealiff, Neil McAdam; Jamie Walshe, Vincent Corey, Ryan Wylie; Darren Freeman, Jack McCarron, Barry McGinn.
Subs: Shane Garland, Thomas Kerr, Stephen O’Hanlon, Micheál Bannigan, Colin Walshe, Karl O’Connell, Paudie McKenna, Conor Boyle, Stephen Finnegan, Fintan Kelly, Dessie Ward, Darren Hughes, Dermot Malone, Gavin Doogan.
