Monaghan Harps notes

By cshalvey Thu 15th Nov

Monaghan Harps Lotto: Last Sunday’s Harps Lotto jackpot of €4,600 was won by Úna Forde (Milltown, Monaghan) c/o Paddy Donnelly! Congratulations to Úna! Jackpot for Sunday, November 18 is €1,000 and Monica and Paudge Connolly are on duty. Lotto draw takes place in our clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which plays a critical role in our club’s funding. We ask all club members to continue to promote our Lotto as much as possible.

U-17: Congratulations to our U-17s, who ended the year on a high by winning last Sunday’s Mallon’s Foods Division One League Final against Latton in Emyvale. In keeping with these teams’ previous meetings, this was another close contest, decided by the minimum margin (4-5 to 1-13). Our lads made a lightning-fast start, with an attack straight from the throw-in leading to Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh firing to the net. Eoghan McGinnity added a brace of points inside the opening ten minutes, before Ógie earned a penalty that Lochlainn Power tucked away to make it 2-2 to 0-3. Latton rallied before half-time, but some strong defending at one end and a Luke Coyle point at the other left it 2-3 to 0-6 in our favour. Latton drew level with the first three points of the second half, but a well-struck free by Eoghan regained our lead, before Lochlainn and Ógie combined to create our third goal, finished by Terence McDonald. Lochlainn went on to drill home his second penalty of the game and although Latton piled the pressure on in the closing stages, disciplined defending kept them at bay and a turnover saw Luke tap over a crucial late score. Joint-captains Oisín Fagan and Lochlainn Power then lifted the silverware. Congratulations to the Harps panel and the management team of Mel McMorrow, Chris Conway, Val Forde, Nicholas Scott and Jimmy Croarkin for their efforts all year, leading to a well-earned success. This was a great team effort, with goalkeeper Daragh Croarkin and Cathal Nally, Killian Conlon, Conor Devlin and Stephen Ward keeping things tight at the back, restricting Latton to limited chances from play, while Nathan Lavery and Oisín Fagan were also able to get forward to good effect. Lochlainn Power and Lorcan O’Rourke put in another big effort at midfield, while there was also a high work-rate from the forwards, where Eoghan McGinnity, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Dean Doherty, Luke Coyle, Dylan Ballantine and Terence McDonald all made an impact. Well done also to all the panel members for their contributions during a lengthy minor football campaign.
