Mallon’s Foods U-17 Football League Division One Final
Monaghan Harps 4-5 Latton 1-13 11/11/18
Last Sunday’s U-17 FL Division One Cup Final saw Monaghan Harps edge out championship winners Latton in Emyvale.
The Harps found the net from the opening attack, straight from the throw-in, through county minor captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh. Eoghan McGinnity added a brace of points for the Harps and Lochlainn Power got their second goal from a penalty. Latton rallied before half-time, with Darragh Dempsey, Aaron Mulligan, Shane Slevin and Kevin Fitzpatrick on target, but the Harps still changed ends in front by 2-3 to 0-6.
Terence McDonald added a third Harps goal on 40 minutes, before the final quarter saw both sides net penalties. Power’s second of the game looked to move the Harps clear, but Mulligan responded from the spot to give double-chasing Latton renewed hope. Dempsey and MFC All-Star Mulligan continued to provide a threat as double-chasing Latton attempted to at least draw level in an absorbing finish, but a late point from Luke Coyle helped the Harps over the line as their defence held firm under pressure in the closing minutes.
