Monaghan GAA Activity Day 2018
Monaghan Coaching and Games had the great opportunity of taking 100 boys & girls aged 12 year olds to Croke Park on Sunday past for the annual U12 Activitry Day sponsored by Littlewoods. Two full to capacity buses made up of children, volunteers, referee’s & coaching staff left Monaghan on Sunday morning at 7pm for a day in Croker. Throughout the time-slot allocated 9:30-11am we had 60 kids playing football and 30 kids playing hurling. The footballers played 3 games of 24 minutes each and the hurlers played 2 games each with 2 teams on and 1 team off. The feedback from the participants was very positive and they really enjoyed the experience of playing in Croke park. After the games had finished the groups got a tour of Croke Park and learned about the history of the stadium and the GAA. It was a worthwhile experience for our juveniles and they learnt a lot more about the GAA and how it started.
Firstly, we would like to thank the clubs who nominated players to take part in the Activity Day. We know its not an easy job picking players and want to thank them for their co-operation. We would also like to thank the helpers for the day who managed teams and helped our full time staff throughout the day which were Brian Sherry, Stephen McGinnity, Brian Clerkin, Trevor McKenna, Ciaran Rooney, Shane Donohue, Jonathan Rutledge, Declan McCooey, Brendan Treanor. Thanks also to Foxhound travel who transported us safely from Monaghan to Dublin and back. Thanks also to our Young Whistlers Darren Treanor, Brendan Reilly & Michael Maguire who refereed the matches. We hope your children enjoyed the day and experience of playing in Croke Park. Were pretty sure it won’t be their last outing on the pitch. Lastly, a huge thanks to Ulster GAA, Croke park and Littlewoods for making this day possible for our juveniles. All six Monaghan clubs were represented and 30 players in total travelled to the event. 1772 players and coaches took to the pitch in what was a spectacle to say the least and smashed the previous record. Many congratulations also to Latton Gaa who also attended with 32 of there newly formed U11 team. This was a fantastic event for our young hurlers to be involved in and will now enter the Guinness book of records. Each player will receive there certificate in the coming weeks.
