Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Final
Emyvale 0-19 Cremartin 1-8 30/9/18
Emyvale won their sixth JFC title – and their third since 2009 – when they saw off Cremartin in last Sunday’s final in Scotstown. With David McAlister causing havoc for the Cremartin full-back line and Ryan McAnespie driving forward from centre-back, Emyvale made a bright start and although a brief purple patch moved the Shamrocks ahead after 20 minutes, that proved to be their only time in the lead.
Emyvale rallied to lead by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time and with Daniel McMahon in accurate form from frees and in open play, they quickly doubled that advantage to six. A goal from sub Shane Burke gave Cremartin hope of a comeback, but despite Barry Kerr finishing with five points, they were outscored by 0-9 to 0-4 from then on.
David McAlister blazed a penalty over the bar for Emyvale, who had further scores from the likes of Garreth McQuaid and Man of the Match and team captain McMahon as they pushed on for a convincing win. Two-time Ulster Club JFC winners Emyvale start their provincial campaign against the Cavan champions on Saturday week (October 13).
