AIB ULSTER CLUB JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Emyvale 5-13, Drumlane (Cavan) 3-7.
As Monaghan Junior football champions twice in previous years, Emyvale have competed in and won the Ulster club Junior football championship and they got this year’s campaign off to a winning start when they proved too potent for Cavan champions Drumlane in Killdallon on Saturday afternoon last. Up to a point Emyvale did it the hard way as Drumlane got off to a flying start and Emyvale faced a four points deficit within ninety seconds of the throw-in. Ultimately they put that poor start behind them and when they got their rhythm going they were to proved far too potent a force on the day as their strength in attack proved too difficult for a Drumlane side who were coming into the game fresh from their first Cavan Junior football championship victory since 1999. Emyvale led as half-time by 2-5 to 2-3, Daniel McMahon, with both goals and they went on in the second-half to turn the tables completely on their opponents with a third goal in the early minutes of the second-half and they were to hit two more, the final one coming in stoppage time to seal a well merited and comfortable victory.
