McElvaney’s Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship Final
Doohamlet 0-9 Seán McDermotts 0-8 21/10/18
Doohamlet won their fourth IFC title since 2010 when they just held off a strong challenge from Seán McDermotts in Clontibret last Sunday. The sides evenly shared eight points in a low-scoring first half and the second period proved a similar story, building to a tense finish, which was eventually settled when Colin Walshe fisted over the winning score three minutes into added time.
Doohamlet hit 13 wides, including eight with the wind at their backs in the first half, but in typical fashion, they ground out the victory to maintain their 100% record in this fixture in this decade.
With Man of the Match Jamie Walshe influential at midfield, Martin Hughes, Damien Ward, Jason McElroy and Conor Marray all having fine games in defence and Barry McBennett top-scoring once again, Doohamlet had enough to get over the line. Seán McDermotts had good performances from the likes of Páraic McGuirk, Brian McQuaid, Niall Kearns and Noel Rice, but it just wasn’t enough to end their recent run of final defeats.
