Gavan Duffy Park: We hosted a big crowd for last Sunday’s McElvaney Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship double-header featuring Corduff, Seán McDermotts, Donaghmoyne and Tyholland. Thanks to all the club members who helped out in the run-up and on the day.
Seniors: We resume our Shoe City Senior Football League campaign with an away game against Truagh this Saturday at 5.30pm. Five points are up for grabs for a win in each of the remaining SFL games. All support welcome.
Fun Day: Our Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday week, September 29. This will include the return of the Great Harps Balloon Race, for which cards are available now from Jimmy Croarkin. All support is appreciated for this important fundraiser for the continued development of our facilities.
U-17: Our U-17s exited the Division One Championship last Wednesday after a tough battle in the quarter-final replay away to Latton. In these teams’ third meeting in the space of little over a week, our lads started brightly but failed to make their early pressure fully count on the scoreboard, despite an early goal by Terence McDonald and points from Eoghan McGinnity and Luke Coyle. A strong finish to the first half gave us a 2-8 to 2-4 interval lead, with Oisín Fagan finding the net and Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and Eoghan adding points. We could only manage a point each from Lorcan O’Rourke and Luke in the third quarter, during which Latton doubled their tally to 4-8. Our lads peppered the Latton goals in the last ten minutes, but couldn’t find a way through bar points from Terence, Lorcan and Eoghan, while Latton broke for another goal to secure a 5-10 to 2-14 win.
Team and scorers: Daragh Croarkin; Cathal Nally, Killian Conlon, Conor Devlin; Oisín Fagan (1-0), Stephen Ward, James McKenny; Lorcan O’Rourke (0-2), Lochlainn Power; Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (0-1), Luke Coyle (0-3, 2f), Dean Doherty; Eoghan McGinnity (0-6, 5f), Dylan Ballantine, Terence McDonald (1-2).
Subs used: Anann Connor.
The league resumes with a home game against Donaghmoyne this Sunday at 11am.
U-11: Two U-11 Harps teams participated very well in the BC Tournament in Emyvale last Saturday. One of our teams went all the way to the Cup Final of a well-run 32-team tournament, where they were edged by the narrowest of margins against Gowna from Cavan. Well done to everyone involved. This group will conclude their year on September 29.
Scór: The club hopes to take part in the upcoming Spraoi Scór (primary-school pupils) and Scór na nÓg (under-17) competitions. Anybody wishing to participate in or help out with Scór is asked to contact our Cultural Officer Joe Ó Gallchóir at 086 3048242.
