MC ELVANEY’S WASTE AND RECYCLING INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Aughnamullen 2-13, Currin 0-15.
Aughnamullen staged a strong finish to come from being 2 points in arrears with 14 minutes of normal time remaining to win by 4 and get their championship aspirations back on track as well as ending Currin’s interest in this year’s series.
Played in blustery and somewhat greasy conditions in Drumhowan, this was a pairing that produced a very entertaining match with some fine individual displays, notably Micheal Bannigan and Pete Dooney for the winners as well as Stephen Smith and Jack McCarron for Currin.
Aughnamullen led at half-time by 4 points, but Currin staged a strong start to the second-half to outscore them by 7 points to 2 in the 3rd quarter to open a 2 points lead. Aughnamullen rallied though, kick started by a goal from Shane Forde and they went on to regain control and clinch victory.
