Monaghan Coaching & Games ran our Annual U13 Farney Hurling camp which catered for players aged 13 years old and under on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday past. There were 41 young hurlers in attendance over the 3 days.
For the majority of the 3 days the camp focused mainly on the skills of hurling which were expertly coached by Aidan Morgan (Monaghan Coaching & Games), Ryan Gaffney (Ulster GAA), Conor Whelan and Aidan Harte (Galway GAA Hurlers), and assisted by Emmett Walsh (Clontibret) and Mel Farrelly (Carrickmacross Hurling Club) .They were also introduced to both flexibility and strength and conditioning techniques by Barry McKenna(Monaghan GAA Athletic Development Coach). At the end of the week the kids received a Farney Hurling Academy ’18 Hoodie and a hurling grip.
On the Friday the kids were rewarded with a hurling tutorial by Tipperary All Ireland winners John McGrath and Dan McCormack. A big thank you to these lads who came down to share their hurling experiences, teach the kids a few new skills, and also take time out to sign hurleys and jerseys.
Also on Friday, the Cavan, Fermanagh and Tyrone hurling academy arrived in Cloghan with 150 young hurlers to take on the Monaghan hurling academy in a mini-blitz games. This was a great opportunity for the hurlers who had participated in camps over the days previous to put their skills to practice.
A great few days was had by all who participated. We look forward to seeing these players further develop over the coming months with their clubs and schools.
