All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers Round 4

Monaghan 0-19 Laois 1-11                                       8/7/18

Monaghan completed the line-up for the All-Ireland SFC last eight with a five-point win over Laois in Navan on Sunday. Monaghan led throughout in sweltering conditions, even though a string of fine saves by Laois keeper Graham Brody kept his side in contention. Conor McManus, Shane Carey, Karl O’Connell, Rory Beggan and Niall Kearns were among the Monaghan scorers in a flying start that opened up a 0-7 to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes. Malachy O’Rourke’s side were ahead by double-scores (0-14 to 1-4) at the interval, despite Paul Kingston getting Laois back into it with a late goal. Laois competed better after the restart, but Ryan McAnespie’s second point secured the win for Monaghan, who now take on Kildare, Kerry and Galway in their ‘Super 8s’ group, starting with the Lilywhites at Croke Park next Sunday.
