Tyholland win Division 3 Championship

Gerry’s Prepared Veg U1 3 Division 4 Championship Final

Tyholland 7- 8 Killeevan 3-9

Tyholland’s Rylan McCooey had the first touch of the ball when the whistle was blown but possession was lost to Killeevan.  Tyholland’s Callum Sheridan opened the scoreboard with a point followed by another from Aaron Clarke.

Killeevan fought back with Leo Duke finding the back of the net. Killeevan continued scoring with some nice points from Oisin Lynch, Leo Duke, Matthew Mc Conkey and Ryan Fitzgerald. Tyholland then got on a scoring streak where Caolain Mullen and Colin Sheridan both scored a goal apiece, following serious midfield action by Rylan and Dean McGarry.

Tyholland’s back line of Jamie Rushe, Killian McKenna and Aaron Treanor continually pushed the ball up the field.  A massive save by Joey Hughes tipping the ball over the bar instead of in the net for Killeevan was the final score by them in the first half as Rylan McCooey won nearly every kick out thereafter. A further point by Tyholland’s Diarmuid Hughes was followed by a quick succession of passes from Jamie to Callum to Aaron Clarke to Diarmuid and a Callum Sheridan goal.  That’s what makes the two-touch football for this level so fast paced and exciting to watch. Tyholland finished the second half the stronger team from well taken goals. The difference could have been further part only for some solid defending from the Killeevan Captain Liam Kelly and goalkeeper Nathan Smyth. Half time score; 3-4 to 1-3

Callum Sheridan opened the second half with a point for Tyholland.  Killeevan did not give up fighting which saw Oisin Lynch making some good runs through the Tyholland defence scoring a great point. Tyholland continued building the scoreboard with another goal from Colin Sheridan.Substitute Thomas McGuigan was introduced and made an impressive impact with a well taken goal. More fine scores from Tyholland’s Dean McGarry led to another point by Rylan following Diarmuid, Jack McGonnell and Colin’s precise movements.  Colin managed to fist it in the net after a point set up from a Jamie Rushe pass.  Jack McGonnell made his appearance with a perfect goal followed by a point by Diarmuid aided by Dylan McConnell and Ryan McArdle.  A further goal for Tyholland and  Killeevan’s Matthew McConkey. Two  beautifully taken points from Leo Duke and Matthew McConkey for Killeevan which closed the game in Tyhollands favour. Final Score; Tyholland 7-8  Killeevan 3-9.

This was a great advertisement for juvenile GAA in Monaghan as it was just two teams made up of children who wanted to play football on a beautiful summers evening.
