All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers Round 2

Waterford v Monaghan, Saturday, 2.00, Dungarvan

Monaghan will travel to Dungarvan to take on Waterford at Fraher Field in a first SFC meeting of the teams and a first in any competition since a 2003 Allianz NFL win in Clones.

Monaghan are looking to get their championship campaign back on track after a late Fermanagh goal ended their Ulster bid at the semi-final stage, following a first-round win over Tyrone. Waterford were knocked out of Munster by Tipperary, but they picked themselves up to claim a famous win at Wexford Park on June 9.

Malachy O’Rourke has named a Monaghan team showing two changes, with Dermot Malone and Conor McCarthy replacing Kieran Hughes and Dessie Ward. The only personnel change to the Waterford starting team sees Thomas O’Gorman come in for Stephen Prendergast.

Monaghan will be looking for Conor McManus, Rory Beggan, Karl O’Connell and the Wylie brothers to lead the way, while Waterford will need big performances from the likes of Jason Curry, JJ Hutchinson, Gavin Crotty, Conor Murray and Tommy Prendergast.

Waterford: Stephen Enright; Thomas O’Gorman, Jack Mullaney, James McGrath (Capt.); Brian Looby, Michael Curry, Shane Ryan; Tommy Prendergast, Kieran Power; Gavin Crotty, Dylan Guiry, Aidan Trihy; Conor Murray, JJ Hutchinson, Jason Curry.

Monaghan: Rory Beggan; Kieran Duffy, Drew Wylie, Ryan Wylie; Dessie Mone, Vincent Corey, Karl O’Connell; Darren Hughes, Niall Kearns; Ryan McAnespie, Dermot Malone, Fintan Kelly; Conor McCarthy, Jack McCarron, Conor McManus.

Subs: Conor Forde, Conor Boyle, Barry Kerr, Colin Walshe (Capt.), Neil McAdam, Paudie McKenna, Dessie Ward, Owen Duffy, Thomas Kerr, David Garland, Shane Carey.
