Street collection: Our annual street collection takes place this weekend: Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 from 9am on both days. All support for this important fundraiser is greatly appreciated and we ask anyone who can volunteer some of their time over the weekend to please contact Damien Morgan or Noreen McMorrow.

Golf Classic: The 2018 Monaghan Harps GAA Club Golf Classic had to be called short due to extremely inclement weather last Friday. The rescheduled presentation will now take place at Rossmore Golf Club tomorrow (Friday, June 15) at 10pm. All support on the night would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to Soleire Electrical, all other sponsors and to everyone involved in organising our Golf Classic.

Sponsor a Seat: To celebrate and promote the continued development of our facilities at Gavan Duffy Park, we are offering the unique opportunity to sponsor/dedicate a seat in our stand at a cost of €50. See our club website (monaghanharps.gaa.ie) or contact Club Secretary Val Forde (secretary.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie), Chairman Jimmy Croarkin (087 1249635) or any committee member for more details. Meetings: The club’s monthly meetings for June take place this evening (Thursday) in the clubhouse: juvenile at 7pm, senior at 8.

Seniors: We fell to a 1-18 to 1-14 defeat at home to Ballybay in the Shoe City Senior Football League last Friday. 1-2 from Éimhín Morahan and points from Kevin Loughran, Gary White, Stephen Driver and Shane Smyth had us ahead approaching half-time, but Ballybay finished the half strongly to take a 1-10 to 1-7 lead. A spirited performance, featuring points from Conor Galligan, Liam Hahessy, Dean Fanning and Michael Galligan, kept us in touch throughout the second half, but it proved just beyond reach in the end.

Team and scorers: Dylan McAree; Gareth Treanor, Nicholas Scott (Capt.), Niall Hahessy; Kevin Loughran (0-1), Conor Galligan (0-1), John Mulligan; Gary White (0-1), Stephen Driver (0-1); David Lowry, Éimhín Morahan (1-2), Niall Ward; Liam Hahessy (0-3f), Shane Smyth (0-2), Francis Lynch.

Subs: Mustafa Gamal for Morahan (black card, 16 mins), Dean Fanning (0-2, 1f) for Mulligan, Conor McCrystal for Lynch (both H-T), Shane McMahon for White (44), Michael Galligan (0-1) for Ward (49).

We host Truagh in the SFL this Saturday at 6pm. All support welcome.

Reserves: We qualified for the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship O’Duffy Cup Final with a hard-earned win away to Latton last Sunday. Points from Éimhín Morahan, Conor McCrystal, Jamie Shields and Thomas Croarkin and a goal by Francis Lynch had us narrowly ahead at half-time. Latton applied some pressure in the second half, but some strong defending and scores from Peter Coyle, Éimhín and Francis secured a 1-9 to 0-10 win.

Team and scorers: Emmett McArdle; Mustafa Gamal, John Mulligan, Jamie Shields (0-1); Niall Ward, James McKenna, David Lowry; Dylan McKenna, Dónal McCarthy; Thomas Croarkin (0-1), Éimhín Morahan (Capt., 0-3f), Shane McMahon; Conor McCrystal (0-2), Shane Coyle, Francis Lynch (1-1).

Subs: Peter Coyle (0-1) for D McKenna, Conor Forde for J McKenna.

We won away to Cremartin in the RFL Division 1B last night (Wednesday), while our Division 2B campaign resumes after a long gap next Wednesday, away to Clones at 8pm.

U-13: Our U-13 Division One were set to begin their championship campaign with a rescheduled game against Castleblayney on Tuesday (June 12). Check online for result. Our Division Five team started a good week with a win away to Scotstown in the league on Tuesday (June 5). They then started their championship with a fine win away to Emyvale on Thursday. A good team performance saw them dominate the first half of this game and although Emyvale were much more competitive in the final period, our lads advanced to the next round in some style.

Panel: Oisín McGeown, Max Mallen, Ethan McCaffrey, Julian Coyle, Ali Galligan, James Gunn (0-2), Kyle Cooney, Dónal Moran (2-0), John McCrystal (2-3), Dara Mullen (3-0), Oisín Treanor (2-3), Fergal Magee, Jack Corrigan (0-1), Rory Conway, Rohann Malocca-McKenna (0-3), Diarmuid McGinnity.

Both teams are in league action this Saturday: Division One away to Castleblayney at 12 noon and Division Five at home to Donaghmoyne at 2.30pm.

U-17: The U-17 Football League will get underway on Saturday, July 7. Our U-17s will begin their campaign with an away game against Carrickmacross.

U-15: The U-15 Football Leagues will resume next Thursday (June 21), when we host Donaghmoyne in Division One.

U-11: Our U-11 teams started the new Liam Stirrat Development League away to Castleblayney last Saturday. Both teams put in excellent performances, winning the Zone A game and competing very well throughout in Zone B also. Next up for both is round two away to Carrickmacross on Saturday week (June 23).

Cottage Market: Thanks to everyone who supported the Harps stand at the Cottage Market at St. Patrick’s Hall last Friday and to the club members who helped out on the day.

Hurling:

Féile na nGael 2018: Jim, Adrian and the U-14 squad travelled to Mayo last Friday and were kindly hosted by Caiseal Gaels for Féile na nGael 2018. A warm welcome was received and before long we got going with our first match against Ballyvary of Mayo. A 2-1 haul for Cian Bradley in this game led us to a 2-3 to 2-2 win, which was a great start in what turned out to be a tight group. Next up we played eventual group winners Castledawson of Derry. Castledawson started very strongly and ultimately finished 4-3 to 1-0 winners. This left us knowing that the match against our hosts on the Saturday morning would decide who progressed through the group in second position. Our final group match against Caiseal Gaels proved another close affair and we were relieved to fall on the right side of a one-point game, finishing 1-2 to 0-4 winners with great performances in particular from Gary Devlin (captain), Seán Callan and goal-scorer Oisín Murray. This set up a quarter-final against Group B winners (and eventual Division 8 finalists) St. Eunan’s, Letterkenny. A good start from St Eunan’s and an equally impressive second half saw them run out winners which brought an end to our competitive involvement in Féile. However, our weekend wasn’t over as we enjoyed the Saturday-night disco before joining Caiseal Gaels for Sunday-morning Mass and supporting them in their shield semi-final. A huge thank you must go to our wonderful hosts and a big well done to our squad and management who proudly represented the club over the weekend.

Squad: Aidan Cunningham, Oisín Connolly, Gary Treanor, Rylan McCooey, James Brady, Gary Devlin, Declan McKenna, Seán Callan, Cian Bradley, Luke McManus, Oisín Murray, Oisín McGeown, Ethan Ballantine, Nicholas Sherlock, Matthew McGuinness, Enda Brady, Oisín McPhillips, Jonas Alexis, Jack McDonald, Odhrán Connolly.

U-13 Championship: After the thrills of Féile, some of the squad will return to club action in the Monaghan championship when we travel to take on Clontibret this evening (Thursday) at 7.30pm.

Juvenile Coaching: Coaching for juveniles continues every Sunday in Rooskey between 12 noon and 1.30pm.
