Kevin Conlon RIP: We are sad to report the death of our former senior team manager and Club President Kevin Conlon. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. Kevin’s son Finbarr is our Coaching Officer and a mentor with our U-13 footballers. Our thoughts are with the Conlon family at this time. Club members will provide a guard of honour at Kevin’s Funeral Mass on Friday morning, meeting in the St. Macartan’s Cathedral car park at 10.30am.

Seniors: We lost out away to Castleblayney in the Shoe City Senior Football League last Sunday. We got off to a strong start, with Éimhín Morahan and Liam Hahessy on the mark and when Éimhín fired to the net on 23 minutes, we were four points ahead. Blayney rallied strongly before half-time, however, to draw level on 0-7 to our 1-4 and the hosts burst out of the starting blocks in the second half. An Emmett McArdle ’45 was all we had to show for our efforts in the third quarter and although we got late points from Éimhín and senior debutant Conor McCrystal, we fell just short in the end on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-17. Our next SFL game is scheduled for Friday, June 8 at home to Ballybay.

Reserves: We qualified for the Platinum Tanks O’Duffy Cup championship semi-finals with a 0-20 to 0-14 win at home to Magheracloone last Friday. Some good scores by Éimhín Morahan, Shane Coyle, Francis Lynch and Niall McManus had us ahead at half-time. We pulled away after the restart, with Éimhín, Conor McCrystal and Emmett McArdle on target to help set up a semi-final away to Latton, due to be played on Sunday week (June 10).

U-15: Our U-15 Division One team returned to winning ways at home to Emyvale last Thursday. With Shay Cooney, Liam Conway, Jake Power and Kevin Moran on the mark in the first half, we built up a 2-7 to 1-3 lead and after Emyvale had hit the first two points of the second half, scores from Jamie Coyle, Nathan Lavery, Daragh Croarkin, Ben Myers and Luke McManus stretched our lead. Shay added his third goal and with Luke and Kevin also finding the net, our lads ran out winners by 5-15 to 3-7.

Éire Óg conceded the Division Five game due to have been played on Saturday. Our U-15 teams now go into the exam break, with competitions resuming on June 21.
U-13: Our U-13 Division One team had a great win away to Clones in the league last Tuesday (May 22). The championship game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Kevin Conlon, while the Division One league game at home to Carrickmacross will now be on Monday at 7pm. The Division Five team are away to Scotstown on Saturday at 2.30pm.
County: Good luck to Neil McAdam and the county senior footballers in their Ulster SFC semi-final against Fermanagh in Omagh on Sunday. We were delighted to host an Ulster U-15 Brian McLernon Cup game between Monaghan and Tyrone last Saturday. Well done to Daragh Croarkin, Tiarnán O’Rourke, Liam Conway, Nathan Lavery, Shay Cooney and the Monaghan team on a fine win.
Exams: Good luck to all our young members starting their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams next week.
Membership: Registration fees for 2018 are now overdue and can be paid to club registrar Kevin Treanor or in the clubhouse. Fees are €20 for players up to and including U-11; €30 for all other players and members and €60 for a family membership. Please note that all players must be paid-up members to be insured for 2018.
Dates to remember: The Ladies Club’s Abbey Fanning Tournament is scheduled for June 9. Our 2018 Golf Classic is on Friday, June 8. The Hillgrove Hotel host a fundraising ‘Take Me Out’ night for Seamie Bell and Karen McKenna on Friday, June 15. Our annual street collection is set for June 15 and 16, with our Family Fun Day and Mick Farrell Tournament pencilled in for August 18 and 25, respectively. The Kellogg’s Cúl Camp returns to Gavan Duffy Park from July 9-13, with our own Summer Camp scheduled for August 20-24.
