Darkness into Light: Final preparations are underway for our fifth time to host Electric Ireland Darkness into Light Monaghan, which takes place at 4.15am this Saturday morning, May 12. Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way so far. Please come along and be part of this special event, which is the main fundraiser for Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of self-harm/suicide. Keep an eye on social media for updates and information in the run-up to Saturday morning.

Seniors: We are away to Carrickmacross in the Shoe City Senior Football League on Sunday at 12.45pm. Please note the early throw-in time.

Club Mass: We hosted a Mass in memory of deceased club members in our clubhouse last Sunday evening. Thanks to Fr. Stephen Duffy, the club members involved in organising and everyone who joined us.

Reserves: A busy championship weekend for our reserve teams started with an O’Duffy Cup preliminary round at home to Cremartin on Friday. Goals by Éimhín Morahan and Francis Lynch had us in the driving seat as we led by 2-7 to 0-5 at half-time. Éimhín, Francis, Shane Coyle, John Mulligan, Dylan McKenna were also among our scorers, before a Thomas Croarkin goal put the result beyond doubt, helping us to a 4-15 to 1-10 win.

Team and scorers: Darragh Hannon; Jamie Shields, Aidan Burns, Niall McManus; Thomas Croarkin (1-0), James McKenna, John Mulligan (0-1); Dylan McKenna (0-1), Richard Wilkie; Conor Forde, Seán Peyton, Conor Duffy; Francis Lynch (2-2), Shane Coyle (0-3), Éimhín Morahan (Capt., 1-7, 0-5f).

Subs used: Niall Treanor, Jason McHugh, Colm Shalvey (0-1), Niall Ward, Mustafa Gamal.

A much closer finish followed in Sunday’s Crawley Cup preliminary round at home to Carrickmacross. Nathan O’Donoghue, Conor Duffy and Conor McCrystal were among our scorers as we went in a point down (0-8 to 1-6) at half-time. The momentum changed several times during a second half where goals from Francis Lynch and Darragh Hannon boosted our chances. Nothing went our way in the closing stages, however, and Carrick progressed on a 2-10 to 2-9 scoreline.

Team: Dylan McAree; Jamie Shields, Aidan Burns, Niall Ward; Niall McManus, John Mulligan, Thomas Croarkin; Dylan McKenna, Richard Wilkie; Conor Forde (Capt.), Conor Duffy, Nathan O’Donoghue; Turlough Clerkin, Francis Lynch, Colm Shalvey.

Subs used: Conor McCrystal, Darragh Hannon, Ruairí Forde.

We host Clones in the RFL Division 2B next Wednesday (May 16).

U-15: Our U-15 Division One team fell to a disappointing defeat away to Carrickmacross last Thursday. A Ben Myers goal and points from the likes of Jake Power, Shay Cooney and Tiarnán O’Rourke kept us in touch in the opening quarter, but Carrick took charge with a couple of majors either side of half-time as they went on to run out convincing winners.

Team and scorers: Karol Parszywka; Jordan Crampton, Tiarnán O’Rourke (0-1), Mark McManus; Gary Devlin, Liam Conway (Capt.), Jake McConnon; Nathan Lavery (0-1f), Kevin Moran; James Curley, Jake Power (0-2, 1f), Jamie Coyle; Daragh Croarkin (0-1), Ben Myers (1-0), Shay Cooney (1-3, 1-2f).

Subs used: Shea Swift, Josh Lavery, Luke McManus, Josh Kelly, Michael McMorrow, Dylan McClave.

Our Division Five team won away to Seán McDermotts on Friday. Scores by Luke and Mark McManus, Jake McConnon, Gary Devlin, Jake McConnon and Shea Swift had our lads well clear for much of this game, but they had to withhold a rally from the Seáns to finish on the right side of a high-scoring encounter (7-10 to 7-5).

Team and scorers: Oisín Reilly; Jordan Crampton, Michael McMorrow; Mark McManus (0-1), Jake McConnon (2-0); Ben Myers, Josh Lavery; Josh Kelly, Shea Swift (0-3); Luke McManus (3-5), Karol Parszywka (1-0).

Subs used: Gary Devlin (Capt., 1-1), Gregory O’Connell, Conor Treanor, Dylan McClave, Eoin McCleary.

Next up in Division One is an away game against Magheracloone next Thursday, May 17.

U-13: Our U-13 Division One team returned to winning ways with a 3-11 to 1-10 victory at home to Scotstown last Saturday. Well done to all involved. Our Division Five team lost out away to Castleblayney. Next up in Division One is an away game against Clones on Saturday week, May 19.

U-11: Our U-11 teams contest their Spring League finals in Cloghan on Friday: both taking on Clontibret at 7pm. All support welcome.

County: Well done to Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Lochlainn Power and the county minor footballers on last Saturday’s Ulster MFC win away to Antrim and good luck against Donegal in Ballybofey this Sunday. Hard luck to Fearghal McMahon, who scored 1-1 on his SFC debut for London as they lost to Sligo, and to Gareth Treanor, who was part of the New York back-room team as they were edged out after extra-time against Leitrim. The Mallon’s Foods Monaghan GAA Breakfast Morning will take place this Sunday in the Glencarn, Castleblayney from 8.30am to 12 noon.
