Juvenile presentation: Our juvenile presentation night brought a bumper crowd to the clubhouse last Friday night. We were excited to have the Sam Maguire Cup in the clubhouse on the night, with one of the best turn-outs for several years. Juvenile Chairman Damien Morgan began a busy night by welcoming all the juveniles, players, mentors and supporters. Gerard Clerkin spoke on behalf of the Ladies Club and their U-16 league winners. Mel McMorrow introduced our U-16s who contested two Division One finals in 2017, as well as our U-13 team who won silverware at the Clann na nGael Tournament in Roscommon. Jimmy Croarkin called up our Under-14 Division One Shield finalists and Under-14 Division Five Championship runners-up, while Adrian Gunn introduced our U-12 Division Five team and James Corrigan welcomed our U-10s who won silverware in Tyholland, as well as our own Mick Farrell Cup. Last but by no means least, Martin Sheridan commended our U-12 Division One winners, recalling their dramatic Coyle Cup Final victory. Club Chairman Jimmy Croarkin then introduced our special guest, All-Ireland winner Kevin Nolan from Dublin. The 2011 All-Ireland SFC Final Man of the Match imparted wise words of advice to our young players and was very generous with his time. We are grateful to Kevin for taking the time to join us. Thanks also to senior players Shane Smyth, Michael Galligan and Mustafa Gamal and our new manager Michael Morgan for helping to make the presentations. Thanks to everyone who attended and everyone involved in organising the night and well done to all our juvenile players for their efforts in 2017.
Rose of Tralee: Jennifer Byrne visited us at Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday morning. Club members were delighted to welcome Jennifer, with Hugh Coyle presenting her with a Harps top and some of our young members also making presentations. Thanks to everyone who attended and represented the club very well.
SFL: There will be a new structure to this year’s Senior Football League. Depending on Monaghan’s progress in the SFC, up to nine league games could be played without county players for two points each. Five points per game will be at stake for the other nine games (split between the start and the end of the league), which will be played with county players.
