Allianz National Football League Division One
Monaghan 0-15 Tyrone 0-14 24/2/18
Monaghan have three consecutive wins to their name in the Allianz NFL Division One after they held on in a tense finish to Saturday’s derby against Tyrone in Castleblayney.
A Monaghan team showing five changes from the win over Kerry did just enough to hold on in yet another tight finish. After having been ahead for most of the first half, Monaghan trailed at the interval, but a burst of five points between the 58th and 67th minutes proved saw Malachy O’Rourke’s side edge it, despite a late rally from Tyrone.
The introduction of Conor McManus proved key for Monaghan in the decisive stage of the game, as he chipped in with three points, while goalkeeper Rory Beggan combined a fourth straight clean sheet with a hat-trick of converted frees at the other end.
Monaghan travel to Salthill to take on high-flying Galway in the first part of a Pearse Stadium double-header next Sunday (March 4).
