Monaghan Hurlers made a winning start to their Allianz Hurling League Div 3A clash in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park yesterday 28th of January when they overcome the home team Longford on a 0-16 to 0-12 scoreline.
Both teams started tentatively with Monaghan just ahead by a single point 0-5 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter with scores coming from Fergal Rafter, Conor Flynn and Mark Treanor. Monaghan pushed on coming towards the break and when the half time whistle blew there was a goal between the teams with the scoreline reading 0-10 to 0-7.
Longford started the 2nd brightly with Cathal Mullane and Patrick Walsh among the scorers to leave it 0-11 apiece at the end of the third quarter. This was a good as it got with Longord only registering one point in the last quarter while Monaghan put a further 5 points on the board with Conor Flynn and Fergal Rafter still to the fore with Martin Murphy and Brian Mc Guigan assisting in the score department. The full time score finished Monaghan 0-16 Longford 0-12.
