Early November saw a very special presentation before the senior league game v Castleblayney in Latton. In every GAA Club and voluntary organisation, there are the people who work dedicatedly and quietly behind the scenes, doing marvellous and essential work, to ensure the club presents its best and operates successfully.
The first dedicated volunteer Patrick Lennon received a presentation of a framed centenary jersey marking Latton’s special year (1917-2017).Patrick is a permanent fixture on the hill at all Senior Games . His expert videoing ability means nothing is lost from games. He supplies the footage in such a timely manner to management. This is an invaluable resource for the team. Patrick also videos Juvenile Finals and produces DVD which the families are delighted to have. Patrick and his family are brilliant supporters of Latton O’Rahilly GAA. The presentation was made by senior team and management and is a fitting means of appreciation of his dedication to the Club.
A similar presentation was made to Paddy & Mary Coyle and Martin Brady. Paddy is the adult team kit manager, club umpire, a member of the hardworking club lotto committee and club executive, organising the kit and gear for all games, challenges and trainings. Paddy is always among the first in the dressing room where ever the fixture and last to leave when all of the kit is safely back in its bag. With his brother-in-law and water man, Martin Brady by his side Paddy and the club are certain to lose nothing, as Martin keeps the tightest of eyes on all players to ensure, no one might attempt to sneak a jersey, diligently collecting all jerseys, tracksuits, bibs and water bottles in the dressing room after all games. The only thing to divert Martin’s attention, would be a photographer for a team photograph. Martin has been Latton’s top lotto seller for many years, getting organised each morning with his daily supply of lotto envelopes. He has some big names on his buyers list including Enda Kenny, Bertie Ahearn and Packie Bonner to name a few. Mary ensures the jerseys are in the washing machine next morning after a game and to the drier or line immediately and if a jersey should be missing, the player wearing the missing number is identified and receives an immediate phone call with a simple message “get it back,” Missing numbers are quickly replaced by Mary and it can truly be said in Latton, sets of jerseys and kit in Latton stand the test of time, due to the care and attention of Paddy, Mary and Martin, who also look after all club flags
A fitting tribute to some brilliant Club Volunteers.
