EUROTECH JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL.

Currin 2-9, Sean McDermotts 1-11.

Currin completed a 1st ever historic Junior double when they added the league title (Dr. Ward Cup) to the championship they had won earlier in the season, after they edged home by the minimum margin against Sean McDermotts in this tough, hard hitting and at times niggly encounter that was played in breezy but sunny conditions in St Oliver Plunkett Park, Emyvale on Sunday afternoon last.

Overall though Currin deserved their victory in that they were the more purposive in their approach while Sean McDermotts were less inventive and at times were too laboured in their build ups particularly in the 1st half with the result that Currin were able to get men behind the ball and frustrate their attempts.

Currin laid the foundation for this victory with a scintillating 1st half as Jack McCarron rippled the Sean McDermotts net twice in the opening 10 minutes, one from a penalty, to help his side to an 8 points half-time lead. Sean McDermotts did fare somewhat better in the second-half and were more expansive in their approach as they gradually whittled away at Currin’s lead to where they had it down to the minimum with 4 minutes of normal time remaining, but Currin held out in a somewhat frantic finish.
