By cshalvey Thu 12th Oct

Monaghan Harps Lotto: Numbers 5, 8, 12 and 17. Jackpot of €2,400 not won. Residual prizes: €100 Marie Finlay c/o Joe Finlay (Hurling Club); €40 Peadar Fox c/o Séamus Treanor; €40 Eugene Greenan c/o Séamus Treanor; €40 Anthony Lynch c/o Séamus Treanor. Jackpot for Sunday, October 15 is €2,500 and Helen and John Hahessy are on duty. Lotto draw takes place in our clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which plays a critical role in our club’s funding. We ask all club members to continue to promote our Lotto as much as possible.

Meetings: The club’s monthly meetings for October take place this evening (Thursday) in the clubhouse: juvenile at 7pm, senior at 8.

Fun Day: Thanks to everyone involved in our annual fun day and balloon race at Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday. The weather wasn’t kind to us and curtailed some of the events planned for the day, but the children all enjoyed the races and sports that went ahead. There was great excitement for the third annual Great Harps Balloon Race, where Hugh Coyle and co. released hundreds of green and white balloons, some of which have already been found in France! Anyone who finds a balloon and code is asked to email Pro.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie (closing date: November 1). Well done to Rhys McCaffrey, who won the first iPad for selling the most balloons. Thanks to everyone in the club who supported the day and sold balloons; particularly the juveniles for putting in a great effort. Credit is also due to the organising committee for their efforts. Please make sure that any outstanding balloon cards are returned to Jimmy Croarkin or Úna Forde ASAP and that juveniles’ full cards include sizes for the new Harps training tops. Thanks also to the Hillgrove Hotel for their much-appreciated sponsorship.

Seniors: We had a hard-earned win away to Truagh in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League last Sunday. Three points from Neil McAdam, two from Dónal Hahessy and one by Gary White had us level at 0-6 apiece at half-time and we started the second half strongly with scores by Neil, Kevin Loughran and Fearghal McMahon. Liam Hahessy finished a fine move with the game’s only goal and with SFL debutant Dylan McAree denying Truagh at the other end, we protected our lead. Niall Hahessy added a brace of points to secure a 1-11 to 0-12 win that leaves us in a three-way tie for third place.

Team and scorers: Dylan McAree; Mustafa Gamal, Conor Galligan, Nicholas Scott; Gareth Treanor, Neil McAdam (0-4, 2f), Kevin Loughran (0-1); Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Stephen Driver (Capt.); Gary White (0-1), Liam Hahessy (1-0), Michael Galligan; Dónal Hahessy (0-2f), Fearghal McMahon (0-1), Niall Hahessy (0-2).

Subs: Ashley White for McAree (42 mins), Conor Duffy for G White (50).

Temporary sub: Dylan McKenna for McMahon (11-14).

Our next game is away to Latton on Sunday week (October 22).

U-11: Well done to our U-11s, who had a good run to the Cup semi-finals of the BC Tournament last Saturday, where they were edged out by a point. Thanks to Emyvale for the invite.

Coaching: Last weekend’s fun day brought a close to this year’s Saturday-morning coaching sessions for our youngest players. Thanks to all the coaches and everyone involved all year and to everyone involved in coaching our various juvenile teams.

Ulster Club JHC: Thanks to the club members who helped us host the Ulster Club JHC semi-final between Na Magha and Mullahoran last Sunday.

AGM date: The club’s Annual General Meeting has been set for Thursday, November 23, with the juvenile AGM a week earlier.

Congratulations: To St. Columba’s, Mullinalaghta, who retained the Longford SFC title last Sunday, with three sons of former Harps player Dan McElligott to the fore.

Gavan Duffy Park: The refurbished Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 2543511 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.
