Latton v Scotstown, Saturday, 5.15, Clontibret
The first two SFC semi-final places are up for grabs in Clontibret on Saturday.
Ballybay and Magheracloone, who both lost out in the last four in 2016, are seeking to take the direct route to that stage. Ballybay edged past Castleblayney in the first round, while Magheracloone have two SFC wins to their name at the expense of Monaghan Harps and Truagh. Ballybay are second in the SFL and they beat Magheracloone in their first meeting of the year, although a resurgent Mitchells team came from behind to grab a win at Pearse Park just last Saturday.
Ballybay are backboned by the likes of Drew and Ryan Wylie, Dessie Ward, Paul Finlay, Thomas Kerr and Christopher McGuinness, while Magheracloone will be looking for big performances from Gavin Doogan, Allan Kieran, Paudie McMahon and the recently returned Tommy Freeman.
The second game is the meeting of Latton and holders Scotstown.
Latton beat Scotstown in the first round last year, only for the champions to recover to retain the title. Scotstown were far too strong for Killanny in their SFC opener, while Latton got the better of Clontibret. These teams have been the top two for much of the year in the league, with Scotstown currently topping the standings and Latton having recently been overtaken in second place.
Scotstown can call on county men Kieran and Darren Hughes, Conor McCarthy, Shane Carey and Rory Beggan, while Latton will hope that Owen and Kieran Duffy, Bernard O’Brien, Owen Coyle and Stephen McCabe can lead their challenge.
