Fun Day: Our annual fun day and balloon race will take place at Gavan Duffy Park on Saturday, October 7. Balloon race cards are available now from Jimmy Croarkin and Úna Forde and every child who fills a card will receive new Harps gear, with an iPad up for grabs for the person who sells the most balloons.

Seniors: We exited the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship after a 1-10 to 0-10 Round 2B defeat against Castleblayney in Inniskeen last Saturday evening. Our only two points of the opening quarter came from frees by Fearghal McMahon as we fell 1-5 to 0-2 adrift, but a strong finish to the first half saw points from Liam Hahessy (two), Shane Smyth and Fearghal close the gap to two. The second half was almost score for score throughout, with Liam, Fearghal, Conor Galligan and Kevin Loughran on target for our lads, but Blayney always staying narrowly ahead.

Team and scorers: Ashley White; Mustafa Gamal, Conor Galligan (0-1), Niall Hahessy; Gareth Treanor, Nicholas Scott, Kevin Loughran (0-1); Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Stephen Driver (Capt.); Shane McMahon, Fearghal McMahon (0-4, 3f), Michael Galligan; Liam Hahessy (0-3, 2f), Shane Smyth (0-1), Neil McAdam.

Subs: Gary White for L Hahessy (44 mins), Nicholas Treanor for N Hahessy (inj., 57), Thomas Croarkin for Loughran (black card, 60 + 3).

We return to County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League action with a home game against Clontibret this Sunday at 12.30.

U-16: Our U-16s have two finals to prepare for this month, with Castleblayney our opponents in the championship decider in Drumhowan on Saturday week.

U-14: Our U-14 season came to a disappointing end last week. First up was Tuesday’s Division Five League Cup semi-final away to Carrickmacross. A Luke McManus goal kept us in touch in the early stages, but Carrick pulled away either side of half-time. Our lads kept going, with Luke, Daragh Croarkin, Gary Devlin and Dáire Sheridan adding points and Josh Kelly finding the net, but Carrick ran out winners.

Team and scorers: Oisín Reilly; Jordan Crampton, Michael McMorrow; Daragh Croarkin (Capt., 0-2, 1 ’45), Shea Swift; Mark McManus, Gary Devlin (0-1); Dáire Sheridan (0-1), Josh Kelly (1-0); Jake McConnon, Luke McManus (1-3).

Subs used: Ben Myers, Gregory O’Connell, Eoin McCleary.

Our Division One team lost out in the Shield Final against Magheracloone on Saturday in Castleblayney. 1-1 from Shay Cooney and points by Jake Power and Daragh Croarkin got us off to a bright start, but Magheracloone came back to draw level by half-time. With the wind at their backs in the second half, Magheracloone started off with a blitz of goals and we never recovered on a day where almost anything that could go wrong did.

Team and scorers: Oisín Reilly; Jordan Crampton, James Curley; Gary Devlin, Kevin Moran, Jake McConnon; Tiarnán O’Rourke, Liam Conway (Capt.); Jake Power (0-1), Shay Cooney (1-1, 0-1f), Jamie Coyle; Daragh Croarkin (0-2, 1f), Luke McManus.

Subs used: Nathan Lavery, Josh Kelly, Shea Swift, Mark McManus, Ben Myers, Dáire Sheridan.

Our U-14s had a busy year that saw us reach two finals and one semi-final, as well as taking part in Féile in June. Thanks to everyone involved.

U-12: Castleblayney have conceded both U-12 games due to be played this Saturday.

Blitz: We host a double blitz for U-8s and U-10s this Saturday from 10am. All help appreciated.

Gavan Duffy Park: The refurbished Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 or Pádraig Callan on 087 2543511 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

Hurling notes:

Juveniles: Underage coaching and games continues every Sunday at 12pm in Rooskey.

U-12: We travelled to Keady last Thursday evening for the U-12 league semi-final where we lost out on a close 0-10 to 0-8 scoreline despite a great team performance. There were many leaders for the Harps throughout the team, with Seán Callan proving very accurate from frees and great performances also from the likes of Cian Bradley, Oisín Connolly, Matthew McGuinness and James Brady. A huge thanks must be made to the large group of supporters that made the journey for the second week in a row, and indeed to all other away games throughout the season. Well done to the whole squad and their management for putting in such an excellent effort throughout the year.

Squad: Oisín Reilly, Rylan McCooey, Jack McDonald, Cian Bradley, James Brady, Oisín Murray, Nicholas Sherlock, Enda Brady, Oisín Connolly, Matthew McGuinness, Seán Callan, Ethan Ballantine, Odhrán Connolly, James Cunningham, Ryan McGeough, Tiernach Connolly, Daithí Golden.

Minor: Keep an eye on our Facebook & Twitter pages for fixture details of our rescheduled minor championship semi-final against Carrickmacross.
