Monaghan Coaching & Games ran our Annual U13 Farney Hurling camp which catered for players aged 13 years old and under on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday past. There were 60 young hurlers in attendance over the 3 days.
For the majority of the 3 days the camp focused mainly on the skills of hurling which were expertly coached by Aidan Morgan (Monaghan Coaching & Games), Pauric Dowdall (Ulster GAA) ,Peter Treanor (Monaghan Senior Hurlers ), Kevin Kelly (Ulster GAA) and assisted by Niall Bermingham (Carrickmacross). They were also introduced to both flexibility and strength and conditioning techniques by Martin Corey (Monaghan GAA Athletic Development Coach). At the end of the week the kids received a Farney Hurling Academy ’17 t-shirt and a hurling grip.
On the Friday the kids were rewarded with a hurling tutorial by All Ireland winning brothers Michael and Colin Fennelly and also former Galway Hurler David Collins. A big thank you to these lads who came down to share their hurling experiences, teach the kids a few new skills, and also take time out to sign hurleys and jerseys.
Also on Friday, the Tyrone hurling academy arrived in Cloghan with 50 young hurlers to take on the Monaghan hurling academy in a few mini games. This was a great opportunity for the hurlers who had participated in camps over the days previous to put their skills to practice.
A great few days was had by all who participated. We look forward to seeing these players further develop over the coming months with their clubs and schools.
