GREENFIELD FOODS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
Scotstown 4-16, Killanny 2-11.
Scotstown got the defence of their senior football championship title off to a winning start when they proved too strong and too streetwise for newcomers Killanny, particularly in the 1st half when this was a very one sided affair in Clontibret yesterday afternoon. This game as a contest was effectively over by the halfway stage when Scotstown led by 3-11 to 0-3, the goals by Shane Carey in the 9th minute and 2 by Conor McCarthy in the 18th and 25th minutes and a series of points that saw 5 of their 6 starting forwards all on the score sheet. A 4th goal when Micheal McCarville got the vital touch in the Killanny goalmouth put Scotstown 19 points in front 7 minutes into the 2nd half and they seemed to take their foot off the pedal a little at that stage which gave Killarney the opportunity to put some respectability on the score sheet, and that they did, by outscoring Scotstown by 2-7 to 0-5 for the remainder of the game to leave 11 points between them at the finish.
