All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final
Dublin 1-19 Monaghan 0-12 5/8/17
Monaghan’s SFC run was brought to an end by a dominant Dublin team in Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park. Dean Rock hit 1-8 for three-in-a-row-chasing Dublin, who set the foundations for another victory with a strong first-half performance that earned them a 0-11 to 0-3 lead.
Rock, whose full-forward colleagues Paul Mannion and Paddy Andrews were also on form, added to his unerring free-taking with the only goal of the game on 40 minutes and although Monaghan battled gamely in the remaining half-an-hour, they were unable to make inroads into their deficit. Substitute Conor McCarthy landed three second-half points for Malachy O’Rourke’s side, but they couldn’t find a way past Dublin keeper Stephen Cluxton, who kept a clean sheet on his record 89th championship appearance.
