The curtain came down on the 2017 intercounty scene on Saturday evening in Croke Park. While the year certainly didn’t end the way everyone in the county wanted we can look back on a year that still had it’s highlights. Away wins to Mayo and Kerry in the league were two. After a disappointing loss to Down we went on the road to places like Wexford and Carlow, journeys one doesn’t normally make in the summer season.
Monaghan GAA would like to thank the panel 0f 35 players, management and backroom team for the effort they have put in throughout 2017. Most of it goes on quietly in the background. It must be remembered that Monaghan will play for a 4th year in a row in Division 1 in 2018. In 2017 they played 7 championship games for the first time ever with 5 wins. There was a 4th All Ireland Quarter Final in 5 seasons.
We as a county of just over 61,000 continue to strive to reach that next level. In 2018 we will continue to do so with our main sponsors Investec and the FKM group. However there also many other who contribute in a variety of different ways. (Please click on link to see all our sponsors – https://www.monaghangaa.ie/sponsors/) Thanks also to Monaghan GAA club in New York for their help. Finally appreciation to our supporters who travel the length of the country supporting us – it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed by the players who are extremely grateful.
We urge you all now to go and support your local club as the club championship steps up a gear with many clubs making their entrance this weekend.
Looking forward to a better 2018 – Muineachán Abú
