Magheracloone 0-13 Truagh 0-5 20/8/17
Magheracloone earned their second SFC win in the space of a week when they comfortably saw off Truagh in Castleblayney on Sunday. Truagh’s Christopher McKenna kicked the only two points of a low-scoring opening quarter, but Magheracloone took over between then and half-time with seven unanswered points, including four from Allan Kieran. Tommy Freeman and Gavin Doogan were also among the scorers as Magheracloone stayed well clear throughout the second half, holding Truagh scoreless in the final 22 minutes. Magheracloone will face Ballybay in Round 2A on Saturday, September 2, with Truagh up against Clontibret the previous evening.

Castleblayney 1-13 Killanny 0-10 20/8/17
Killanny became the first team to exit the 2017 SFC when they fell to a six-point defeat against Castleblayney in Aughnamullen on Sunday. Mark Treanor punched home the only goal on 22 minutes to lead Blayney to a 1-7 to 0-5 half-time lead and although Killanny battled to the end, with Gavin Flanagan kicking five points, they never looked like bridging that gap. Mark Kelly was Blayney’s top scorer as they set up a meeting with Monaghan Harps.

Clontibret 2-14 Donaghmoyne 0-9 20/8/17
Clontibret got back to winning ways in the SFC and knocked out Donaghmoyne in convincing style in difficult conditions at Castleblayney on Sunday. Five Conor McManus points helped Clontibret build up a 0-9 to 0-3 lead by the end of a first half in which David Garland was Donaghmoyne’s only scorer. Clontibret sealed the win with a brace of goals in the final quarter: the first from Dessie Mone and the second from McManus, who finished with 1-8. Last year’s runners-up will face Truagh in Round 2B on Friday, September 1.

Clontibret’s Round 1B win came a week after they lost to Latton in Castleblayney. Latton brought their impressive league form into their opening championship win over Clontibret. A slow start by both teams produced only one point each in a dull opening quarter, but Latton got going either side of half-time, led by Bernard O’Brien, who finished with seven points. Owen Duffy fired home the only goal as Latton set up a meeting with Scotstown in Round 2A.
