Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Preliminary Round

Donaghmoyne v Truagh, Sunday, 5.30, Clontibret

The SFC gets underway with Sunday’s preliminary-round clash between Donaghmoyne and Truagh.

Having been promoted last year before going on to reach the Ulster Club IFC Final, Donaghmoyne have six points to their name in the SFL this year, leaving them three points adrift of Truagh, who scored a late goal to win by the narrowest of margins when these teams met a fortnight ago.

Truagh will be hoping to have the likes of Paudie and Christopher McKenna, John McCarron and Colm McRory available, while Donaghmoyne will be depending on David Garland, Frank Markey, Mikey Murnaghan and Stephen Finnegan.

McElvaney Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship Preliminary Round

Blackhill v Carrickmacross, Saturday, 5.15, Castleblayney

Inniskeen v Toome, Saturday, 5.15, Castleblayney

The IFC starts with Saturday’s preliminary-round double-header in Castleblayney.

First up is Blackhill v Carrickmacross. Two divisions separated these teams last year, but Blackhill won the JFC and went on to go close to lifting the Ulster junior title, while Carrick were relegated from senior. Carrick have lost just once in the IFL to date, after starting the year with a three-point win over Saturday’s opponents. Blackhill have settled well with their step up; currently sitting in mid-table.

Carrick are set to be without Stephen Gollogly due to injury, but they should have the likes of Aaron Lynch, Seán Downey, Stephen O’Hanlon, Aaron Jones and Cillian Cromwell, while Blackhill will need big performances from Ryan, Dónal and Anthony Courtney and Dermot Daly.

The other game is between south-Monaghan rivals Inniskeen and Toome.

Inniskeen, who reached the semi-finals last year, are fourth in the league, with Dónal, Ronan and Paul Meegan and Matthew McKenna leading the way. Toome are just a point behind in the IFL, however, after being promoted by winning last year’s JFL with a team spearheaded by James and Gary Wilson, Frank Connolly, Mattie O’Reilly and Seán McMahon.
