Hurling notes:
Juveniles: Underage coaching and games continues every Sunday at 12pm in Rooskey.
U-12: We travelled to Castleblayney for round seven of the league on Monday evening, however the fixture wasn’t played as no referee showed up. We play Keady at home next Monday, July 31, at 7.30pm.
Senior: We hosted Carrickmacross last Thursday in round four of the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling Championship. Played in heavy summer downpours, this match was never going to be a free-flowing affair, however credit must be given to both teams on the competitive and entertaining contest that unfolded. The Harps got the better start with Robbie Healy opening the scoring almost immediately. This was soon followed by another three Harps points from three different scorers. Carrick worked their way into the game and by the 11th minute the score stood at 0-4 to 0-2. Two Ray Lee points followed before Carrick had their own purple patch which resulted in three points, before a trading of scores left the Harps up by 0-9 to 0-7 at half-time. The Harps again started the brighter in the second half with Robbie Healy registering another early score. This was followed by a Conor Flynn pointed free before Frank Burke latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the square and turned it to goal to put the Harps in control for the first time. A Cathal Power point with ten minutes to go put the Harps up by 1-13 to 0-7, however Carrick pushed hard in the last ten minutes and owning a lot of possession they made it difficult for Harps scores. A run of three Carrick scores in a row was halted by another excellently pointed free from Conor Flynn and although Carrick got the last score of the game, it finished 1-14 to 0-11 in favour of the Harps.
Squad: Cillian Sherry; Adrian Dalton, Dylan McAree, Éanna Finlay; Tiarnán Bramley, Conn O’Hanlon, Conor Duffy; Cathal Power (0-1), Brendan Naughton; Conor Flynn (0-4), Aidan Burns (0-2), Ray Lee (0-3); Reece Treanor, Robbie Healy (0-2), Frank Burke (1-2).
