Minors: Our minors started the Division One championship with a fine win at home to St. Patrick’s on Tuesday, July 11. A brace of goals from Ben Kearns-Flynn and points by the likes of Conor McCrystal, Oisín Fagan and Thomas Croarkin had our lads in the driving seat at half-time. With Aidan Burns adding a second goal and Dylan McAree keeping St. Pat’s out at the other end, a 3-11 to 0-14 win set up a quarter-final away to Castleblayney next Tuesday (July 25) at 7.30pm.

Team: Dylan McAree; Zach Mallen, Killian Conlon, Nathan O’Donoghue; Jamie Shields, Niall Ward, Adam O’Neill; Aidan Burns, Lochlainn Power; Oisín Fagan, Conor McCrystal, James Bourke; John Lowry, Ben Kearns-Flynn, Thomas Croarkin.

Reserves: We hosted Carrickmacross in our final RFL Division 2B game last Wednesday. A good contest saw a brace of goals from Dylan McKenna leave us just a point behind at half-time and we remained in contention throughout, only for Carrick to run out winners on a 2-13 to 3-6 scoreline. That brought the 2017 Reserve Leagues to a close for us. Thanks to Declan McArdle, Paul Rushe, Jimmy Croarkin, Gary McAleer, Seán Morahan, Johnny Sherry and everyone involved with our reserve teams this year.

Team: Dylan McAree; Ruairí Forde, Aidan Connell, Conor Flynn; Jamie Shields, Carl Foentjies, Brendan McQuaid; Dillon Duffy, Conor Duffy; Seán Conway, Colm Shalvey (Capt.), Reece Treanor; Dylan McKenna.

Subs used: Zach Mallen, Niall Brannigan.

U-15: We entered the U-15 Ulster Óg Blitz in Cloghan last Saturday morning. We started with a good win over Inniskeen, where Terence McDonald, Shay Cooney, Liam Conway and Dylan Ballantine were all on target, but despite having plenty of chances in our second game against eventual group winners Aughnamullen, we had to settle for a 1-2 to 0-5 draw. Our last game was another good contest against Donaghmoyne, but despite getting scores from Terence and Shay, we fell short and missed out on a place in the final. Well done to our panel of 10 who took part, namely: Daragh Croarkin, Cathal Nally, Liam Conway (0-1), Dylan Ballantine (0-1), Dean Doherty, Terence McDonald (3-6, 0-1f), Shay Cooney (2-4, 0-2 ‘45s, 0-1f), James Curley, Jake Power, Kevin Moran.

U-14: Our U-14 Division Five team are away to Castleblayney in the league this Saturday at 1.15pm. The championship final has been provisionally set for Monday, August 7.

U-12: Our U-12 Division Five team were unfortunate to fall to a narrow defeat away to Donaghmoyne last Saturday. The Division One game away to Scotstown has been rescheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday) at 7pm.

U-10: Our U-10s took part in the annual John Treanor Memorial Cup last Saturday. 32 teams participated, with Monaghan Harps’ group consisting of: Ardboe (Tyrone), Gowna (Cavan) and Kinawley (Fermanagh). First up was Gowna, where after a slow start, we competed well in an entertaining game but lost out by a point. Next up we earned two very good wins against Ardboe and Kinawley. This put us through to the shield quarter-finals where we took on Seán Mac Cumhaills, Ballybofey. This tough encounter ended with a two-point win for the Harps and set us up for a semi-final against St. Paul’s, Belfast. After an evenly-matched first half, we were all square at the break. St. Paul’s were the stronger team in the second half and unfortunately, we missed out on a place in the final. Our boys played some great football and a great day was had by all. A very special thank you to Truagh Gaels for hosting a fantastic tournament.

Panel: Aaron McCague, Adam Richardson, Alex Flynn, Dáire McKenna, Daniel Alexis, Jack McMahon, Jake Cassidy, Joe Gunn, John Sherry, Josh Cassidy, Kyle Lavery, Luke Swift, Mark Lynch, Nathan McCabe, Ruairi Smyth, Ryan Grant, Ryan McGeough, Shay Lambe, Shea Corrigan.

County: Well done to Neil McAdam and the Monaghan senior footballers on last Saturday’s SFC qualifier win in Carlow. Well done also to everyone involved with the Monaghan U-16 team in the Gerry Reilly Cup and best of luck in the final on July 30.

Summer Camps: Huge numbers took part in last week’s Kellogg’s Monaghan GAA Cúl Camp at Gavan Duffy Park. We are now looking forward to hosting our own Harps Summer Camp, which will take place for its fourth year from August 14-18. 1981 McNally Cup Team Reunion: A reunion of the Harps U-16 winning team of 1981 took place in the clubhouse last Saturday night. With most of the panel attending, a great night was had by all. Thanks to everyone who attended and to Paul Swift and co. for organising.

Hurling notes:

Juveniles: Underage coaching and games continues every Sunday at 12pm in Rooskey.

U-12: We welcomed Carrick to Rooskey last Monday where we looked to build on our win over Cootehill a week previous. A strong first-half display from Carrick saw them lead by 6 scores to 1. However, in the second half, the Harps provided a great response as performances from the likes of Cian Bradley, James and Enda Brady and Nicholas Sherlock saw the home team have the better of the half. Carrick had done enough in the first half, however, and the game finished 9 scores to 6 in their favour. Next up is a trip to Castleblayney on Monday, July 24 with a 7.30pm throw-in.

Senior: We travelled to Inniskeen last Thursday for our second fixture of the championship. Again, our young squad with several absentees showed plenty of promise. Despite a slow start in which we conceded a goal within the first minute, we settled ourselves into the game with two Aidan Óg points and a goal from Adrian Dalton helping to keep us in touch at half-time (1-7 to 1-4). Inniskeen started the brighter in the second half before scores from Aidan Burns, Conor Flynn and Ray Lee began to reel them back in again. An industrious effort from the likes of Tommy Croarkin and Dylan McAree in defence saw us begin to get a foothold in the game, however a second yellow card for Tiarnán Bramley with just over ten minutes to go put the match beyond doubt as Inniskeen scored 1-6 to the Harps’ 1-1 in the remaining time. The game finished on a 2-20 to 2-9 scoreline.

Squad: Cillian Sherry; Dylan McAree, Alan Ryan, Éanna Finlay; Tiarnán Bramley, Cathal Power (0-1), Tommy Croarkin; Aodhán Óg McAnespie (0-2), Niall McManus; Conor Duffy, Conor Flynn (1-3), Aidan Burns (0-1); Reece Treanor, Adrian Dalton (1-0), Frank Burke.

Subs: Jack Lee (0-1), Ray Lee (0-1), Paul Lee, Conn O’Hanlon, Luke Mulligan, Gabe McQuillan, Brendan McQuaid, Oisín Power.
