Seniors: We lost out away to Castleblayney in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League last Friday evening. Points from Nicholas Scott, Gareth Treanor, Michael Galligan, Gary White and Fearghal McMahon weren’t enough for us to avoid falling 1-9 to 0-6 down by the end of the first half. We started the second half brightly, only for Blayney to pull further clear with their second goal. A fine goal by Fearghal McMahon and points from Fearghal, Neil McAdam and Gary closed the gap to three, but we fell short on a 2-12 to 1-12 scoreline. Our next SFL game is against Truagh on Saturday, June 10.

U-16: Our U-16s fell to a narrow defeat in a fine contest at home to Latton last Thursday. Eoghan McGinnity, Dean Doherty and Oisín Fagan were on target for our lads in the opening quarter, but Latton got the opening goal to move ahead until Lochlainn Power netted a penalty to make the half-time score 1-4 apiece. It remained tight throughout the second half, with Eoghan, Oisín, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh and Lochlainn kicking points for the Harps, but Latton finished strongly with a burst of 1-2 giving them the spoils on a 2-11 to 1-10 scoreline. This was the last game before the exam break, with the league set to resume on June 29.

Team and scorers: Shay Cooney; Andrew Lyden, Killian Conlon, Cathal Nally; Conor Devlin, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (Capt., 0-2), Stephen Ward; Lorcan O’Rourke, Lochlainn Power (1-1, 1-0 pen); Dean Doherty (0-1), Oisín Fagan (0-2f), Jamie McCarron; Eoghan McGinnity (0-4, 3f), Luke Coyle, Terence McDonald.

U-14: Our Under-14 teams had home wins last Wednesday. Our Division One team saw off Magheracloone thanks to a fine first-half performance. Tiarnán O’Rourke, Luke McManus, Shay Cooney, Jake Power, Karol Parszywka and James Curley were all on target in that opening half as we earned a 4-4 to 0-5 lead. Magheracloone closed the gap after the restart, but points from Shay, Tiarnán, Liam Conway and Jamie Coyle and some strong defending were enough to keep us clear on a final score of 4-10 to 1-11.

Subs used: Jordan Crampton, Josh Kelly.

Our Division Five team also returned to winning ways at the expense of Scotstown. Points from Shea Swift, Luke McManus and Josh Kelly got us off to a good start, before Conor Treanor, Luke and Josh both found the net to move us 4-5 to 0-4 by half-time. Points from Conor, Shea and Dean Conlon helped keep us ahead, while goalkeeper Oisín Reilly and his defence did well to keep Scotstown at bay. The gap was cut to six points near the end, but a brilliant goal by Jake McConnon secured a 5-8 to 3-5 win.

Team and scorers: Oisín Reilly; Jordan Crampton, Ché Treanor; Shea Swift (0-3), Gregory O’Connell; Jake McConnon (1-0), Gary Devlin (Capt.); Dáire Sheridan, Josh Kelly (1-1); Luke McManus (2-2), Conor Treanor (1-1).
