Carrickmacross will be hosting Castlebar at the John West Féile Peile na nÓg and they will be competing in Division 1
Castlebar Mitchels was formed on 11th December 1885. The club is named after John Mitchel, the Young Ireland leader, who was banished to Tasmania in 1848 after being found guilty of treason.
Today, Castlebar Mitchels is a thriving club, serving the sporting and entertainment needs of Castlebar town and surrounds. It’s objective is to have well prepared, disciplined teams representing the club at all levels-teams that the people of Castlebar can be proud of. They have approximately 700 members and field three adult teams and ten underage teams from Under 6 to Minor grade. Their players are from every corner of the world and the involvement and commitment from club members, officials, parents and supporters is fundamental to the on-going success of Castlebar Mitchels.
They have two main pitches, the Josie Munnelly Pitch and the Gerry McDonald Pitch, both named after famous clubmen. The clubhouse is An Sportlann and has a bar and function room, squash courts, a main hall and four dressing rooms. Mitchels have won four Connaught Senior Club Championships and thirty Mayo Senior Championships. They are the current Mayo Senior and Minor County Champions.
This is the club’s tenth time qualifying for the Féile Peile na nÓg and are very proud to be representing Mayo in Carrickmacross and Monaghan.
