Presentation Night! There was a good turnout in Nallos on Friday night and when the Chairman of the Emmets handball club Terry Kiernan “called order” he proceeded in his own meticulous manner to give details of the year gone by. One by one; the various winners stepped forward to receive their trophies from different handball personalities. After announcing the different competition winners he outlined the importance of the “Hall of Fame” award and after delivering a citation to the audience; he announced that the recipient of this prestige accolade for 2017 was John Eogán; who then made his way forward to a standing ovation to receive his memento from last year’s winner Pat Kiernan. John’s daughter Emma who was also in attendance was presented with a bouquet of flowers.  In his response John reminded all those present of the “good times” he shared during his handball career and the many friends he met throughout the years; he went on to say he enjoyed every minute of it and thanked the club for their kind recognition! The Emmets club also want to congratulate John and all the various competition winners and wish them the all the best for the future and for next season’s competitions.

Club Lotto! Thanks to Cloughvalley Stores for their hospitality last weekend and thanks to the customers who bought their envelope from the Emmet sellers it as a great success: However the Big-Big Lotto is still intact for another week when it will be 11,400. There were no matching numbers on Monday night. The numbers drawn were 10/20/22/27:  First out of the “lucky dip” for a €50 “Keep it Local” voucher was; Julie Smith followed by Simon Allen who won a €20 voucher as did; Jim Fox; the final €10 voucher went to Sean Ward. Look out for Emmets lotto envelopes; they will be in plentiful supply in the local shops; make sure your name is in the hat because the Jackpot won’t last much longer! Thanks to Stephen and Ryan who took on the pubs!

Vote of Sympathy!  At Monday’s night committee meeting a vote of sympathy was passed to Shane Crosby and his fiancée Caitriona and the Crosby family on the death of Patsy Crosby: Patsy was the father of former Emmets club-secretary and player Shane; although now residing in London; he visits us regularly and is always a most welcome face around our club and on this occasion we share his grief and offer our condolences to his beloved wife Jacinta sons Andrew and Joseph, daughters-in-law Donna and Tatiana and on their great loss.

Ryan Gartlan Cup! This Friday evening St Martins from Monasterboice, County Louth; travel to our pitch on the Donaghmoyne Road for 7-45 pm to play the Emmets minor team for the Ryan Gartlan perpetual cup donated to the club in memory of this fine young fellow. What better way to remind us of Ryan’s memory than supporting the game of football; which he loved!
