Intermediate League! In the end it was fairly conclusive at Emmet Park but it wasn’t the case for long periods of this Intermediate game against Inniskeen; in fact one could look back at the first half when the Emmets played second fiddle to a strong Grattans midfield; the defence also conceded six points from free-kicks out of a total of seven scored by Inniskeen. Half time Emmets 1-07 Grattans 0-07. Aaron Murray began his long journey from the town end until he finally shot a humdinger of a goal in the second half. Grattans fought back with two more pointed free-kicks. Shortly afterwards Emmets got a penalty which was neatly put away by Stephen Gollogly and before the visitors could recuperate they were hit with another low strike from Stephen O’Hanlon to the same net. This purple patch continued until Stephen Gollogly closed down the Emmets total with a point from a free-kick and Inniskeen ended their scoring with two good points from play! Final Score Emmets 4-11 Grattans 0-12: Team; Andrew O’Rourke, Jamie Guinan; Conor Duffy; Killian Cromwell; Aaron Murray; Gary McEneaney; Cáolin Martin; Neil Loughman; Aaron Lynch; Ciaran Ward; Stephen Gollogly; Stephen O’Hanlon; Conor McEneaney; James Conlon; Sean Downey; Substitution; Declan Finnegan: Next game is away against Aughnamullen on Wednesday night; throw-in at 8-00 pm

Feile 2017! Emmets are pleased to be hosting the famous Castlebar Mitchells Club which was formed on the 11th December 1885.  After the formation of Castlebar Mitchells the club colours were green and yellow. They won their first Mayo senior championship title in 1888 and the captain of the winning team was Thomas J Kelly. Castlebar’s next county title was in 1903 and there was a 27 year wait for the third title victory in 1930. The glory decade for the Mitchells was the 1950’s when they won seven senior county titles. The search to acquire their own playing area ended in the late 1920’s when the grounds now known as McHale Road were purchased. McHale Park was officially opened on the 24th May, 1931.  More to follow!

Big Big Lotto! The Club-Lotto has now reached €11,300 and rising; there was no matching numbers on Monday night. The numbers drawn were 20/22/24/26:  First out of the “lucky dip” for a €50 “Keep it Local” voucher was; Bernie McCartney followed by Jason Kane who won a €20 voucher as did; John Doherty; the final €10 voucher went to Breda Moore.  Look out for Emmets lotto envelopes this weekend; they be in plentiful supply in the local shops; make sure your name is in the hat because the Jackpot can’t last much longer; it’s certainly worth a go for €2 or three for a €5! Thanks to last week’s sellers.

Big Big Breakfast! Over three hundred people were well fed before the trip to Breffni Park and as the day turned out it was well needed!  The Emmets “big breakfast” was a great success socially and catering wise it went down as well as the Shirley Arms food. The banter was good humoured and the “meet and greet” craic was mighty; we even fed our Cavan man! Anyway; the result of the match cemented a grand day for the Emmet supporters who made the victorious journey! Thanks to everyone who helped with all the work and who knows maybe we’ll have another fry-up if an Ulster final is on the cards!

Under-Twelve League! Emmets entertained the Harps at Emmet Park at the weekend with the first game a division one match between the two town teams. Eventually the Emmets emerged winners by 2-11 to 2-06 in a keenly fought encounter among two fine teams. The division five teams then took the field to do battle and in a tit-for-tat contest that was well enjoyed by all the supporters. It took two second half goals to clinch victory for the Emmets as the Harps never gave up the chase but in the end they lost out by 4-05 to 3-02. Both Emmet teams top their respective groups with three wins out of three each. On Tuesday both teams travel to Castleblayney to take on the Faughs with the first game at 6-45pm.

Under-Fourteen Championship! The Emmets travelled to Monaghan to play the Harps in the quarter-final of the County Championship and as always expected it was a good high-scoring contest between these two teams who served up plenty of action during the course of the game. However when it came to scoring the Emmets held the upper hand and they scored goals at vital stages of the match. In fact they scored five goals in total and when coupled with thirteen points it was enough to see off the challenge of the homesters. Harps scored two goals and ten points which was a respectable account by any means but the energy of the Emmets sees them in the semi-final spot.

Reserve Team! The Emmets have Aghabog in Emmet Park on Saturday evening at 8-00pm in Round Seven of the league. Presently they share second place in the table with Clones with both teams on eight points each; two behind leaders Eire Og; while Monaghan Harps lie in fourth spot on six points.
